    Millie Bright Facts

  • Millie had suffered from pneumonia as a toddler. She also spent some of her early childhood struggling with bouts of asthma.
  • As a child, she had dreamt of a career in equestrianism but took to playing soccer by the time she turned 9 years old. She joined Killamarsh Dynamos, a local team in Derbyshire, after watching a friend play for the team.
  • She was later scouted by Sheffield United W.F.C. (an English women’s football club based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire) and joined their academy team. She spent the rest of her youth career there before starting her senior professional career with Doncaster Rovers Belles L.F.C. in 2009.
  • At the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Millie was sent off in England’s 2–1 semi-final defeat to the United States after receiving a 2nd yellow card. This was just the 2nd instance of England reaching the semi-final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup – the other instance was the previous edition (2015) of the tournament, also a 2-1 defeat, to Japan.
  • In December 2020, she and fellow English professional soccer player Rachel Daly (also Millie’s best friend) started DalyBrightness, a shopping & retail business through which they have also launched a clothing line and done charity work.
  • Millie captained England for the first time in April 2021, in a friendly game against Canada.
  • She was an integral part of the English squad that won the inaugural edition of the Arnold Clark Cup in 2022. Millie was the joint-leading goalscorer of the tournament with 2 goals. England (2 points) and Germany (1 point) had started the last match of the tournament trailing their other 2 opponents – Spain (5 points) and Canada (4 points). This last match between England and Germany was heading towards a tame draw with the 2 teams level at a goal apiece going into the last 10 minutes.
  • Millie then struck a vital blow in the 84th minute of the match to put England ahead (2-1) which the team managed to convert into a 3-1 win. Her goal proved decisive in not just England winning the match but also the tournament as they edged Spain on goal difference (+2 compared to +1) – both teams had finished top of the table in the 4-team tournament with 5 points each.
