MEL B reportedly begged a judge to hold her divorce case in private to stop her estranged husband Stephen Belafonte playing a sex tape in court.
The former Spice Girl is said to have filed a motion with the court in Los Angeles after reportedly learning of her former partner’s intention to include the tape in the proceedings, thereby making it public, The Sun reports.
The singer, 42, has been involved in a bitter divorce battle with Belafonte since their split late last year.
It turned nasty after she filed for a restraining order against him, making their breakup public and airing allegations that he beat her during their turbulent 10-year marriage.
The Daily Star Sunday now reports that Mel B asked a judge to keep their court dealings private after she learned that Belafonte intended to admit a sex tape into evidence.
Her lawyers claim the court has a duty to shield the singer’s three children from being “exposed to any illicit material” that might become public if it is played in court.
Her team suggests the case is sealed, blocking the press from reporting all the saucy details of the former couple’s court fight.
Recent reports previously suggested the tape shows Belafonte getting down and dirty with another woman and Mel B is alleged to have recorded the explosive home video herself.
A judge is expected to make a decision on whether to make the proceedings private by the end of the month. Mel B has kept a dignified restraint amid the ongoing war between her and her former partner, and she appears confident the “truth” will come out.
Last week, she posted a note on Instagram that read: “The truth always comes out in the end, no matter how hard anyone tries to hide it or stop it. Lies are just a temporary delay to the inevitable.”
The Sun Online reported how Belafonte’s lawyers were investigating a second witness who claims “she had a threesome” with the couple.
Mel B accused Belafonte of being physically abusive, and alleged he beat her so badly before The X Factor final in 2014 she had to pull out.
The bitter divorce battle has been complicated by a lawsuit from former nanny Lorraine, who is suing Mel B over her affair claims.
According to reports, Belafonte will only get a fraction of the Spice Girl’s £48 million ($A81.4million) fortune due to a prenuptial agreement.
In July 2017 it was reported Mel B is paying Mr Belafonte £30,500 ($A51,704) a month as emergency spousal support and is covering his legal fees to the tune of £106,900 ($A181,220)
