Katie Richards Hope, a distinguished member of the University of North Dakota Athletic Hall of Fame and the director of student success and disability support services at Mayville State University, tragically lost her life Thursday morning in a car accident in Reynolds.

After her vehicle took a sudden turn off the road and rolled over several times, Katie, a resident of Hope, North Dakota, was pronounced dead as a result of the accident. The incident occurred while she was driving south on 22nd Avenue NE, approximately eight miles west of Reynolds in Traill County.

On November 2, 2023, around 12:10 A.M., law enforcement received a report of the car crash, and Katie was declared dead at the scene. This heartbreaking incident has left the Mayville State University community in deep sorrow as they mourn the loss of a beloved staff member.

About Katie Richards Hope

Katie Richards was not only an accomplished athlete but also the Director of Disability Services and Student Success at Mayville State University. She served as the varsity boys basketball coach at May-Port-CG High School since 2009.

Her remarkable achievements included being selected for Hope High School‘s all-state basketball team and receiving an honourable mention All-American title. At the same time, she was part of the University of North Dakota Sioux basketball team, contributing to three national championship victories.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Katie was the sole occupant of the 2021 Buick Enclave traveling southbound at the time of the accident. It was determined that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt during the collision.

Katie was a wonderful person with a pure and kind heart, and her legacy will always be cherished. She leaves behind fond memories and will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her. Rest in Peace, Katie.
