INTERVIEW: Aria Wunderland reveals all following her latest single

June 2024 · 4 minute read

Following the release of her single ‘Super Fly’, we caught up with Aria Wunderland to talk everything from her biggest inspirations to the amazing meaning behind her single

Have you always wanted to create music? Or was it something you decided to pursue at a later age?
I fell in love with music through piano – we always had one growing up. I wrote and played music from a very young age but it didn’t really click that I could do it as a career until later! I knew I was going to college since my family wouldn’t have it any other way but I started pursuing music as a career while doing my bachelors.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in all of the amazing new music that is coming out and from many other art forms! I’m inspired by fashion, film, visual art, photography, theatre, dance, literature, etc!

What type of music do you like to listen to in your free time?
I listen to a lot of top 40 and alternative music. When I’m trying to relax I love classical.

In your own words how would you describe your sound to new listeners?
I would say it’s primarily alternative pop music with hip hop and trap influences.

We love Super Fly! Can you explain to us the meaning behind the track?
Thank you I’m so glad you love it! Super Fly was actually inspired by a classic book I have loved since High School called The Metamorphosis (by Franz Kafka).  In the book a man wakes up one day as an insect. That imagery has always stuck in my head so I decided to do a play on words. In the song, the guy is super fly in that he has swag and is irresistible. However, he’s also a bug and if you get too close he may bite. In the song I’m willing to be bitten since he’s so worth it and I feel I’m strong enough to take the sting.

Do you have any touring plans lined up?
Yes I’m actually planning a small north east tour and a couple of dates in Los Angeles in the fall!

Which song represents the soundtrack of your life?
I would say, out of the songs I’ve released, Silhouette would most accurately illustrate my life. It’s a coming of age song and has a lot to do with where I am today.

Which part of creating music do you find the most challenging?
What’s most challenging is making the next song as great as the last. There is a lot of pressure when you write what you think is a great song and then aim to do it all over again.

What is your dream event or venue to perform at?
I would love to preform at Radio City Music Hall. I’m from New York and have alway been obsessed with this venue. It has so much history. It feels so glamorous and so New York.

How can fans keep up to date with your news and music?

Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?
I would say stay true to your heart. Because we are trying to make a career out of our talent and passion, it is easy to lose ourselves in our attempt to become profitable. We have to constantly remind ourselves of that untainted feeling we had when we first started to pursue music, free of outside noise, societal pressure, etc. I think if we hold on to that magic that’s when music resonates with the audience and success will follow.
