Felicity Huffman had her day in court to plead her sentencing case to a judge. She asked for no jail time for her involvement in the college admissions scandal.

The Desperate Housewives alum paid $15,000 to facilitate cheating on daughter Sofia’s SAT. The actress took a plea deal in April regarding the charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

Prosecutors are recommending Huffman spend one month in prison with 12-month probation following her release and a $20,000 fine. Today she had the chance to explain her actions in front of a judge, which will help determine her sentence.

Via her attorney, the Hollywood starlet asked for one-year probation, with community service. She had 27 people write character reference letters of support to the judge including, ones from her husband William H. Macy and her good friend Eva Longoria.

Huffman submitted her own letter explaining her actions and once again admitting her guilt.

“Please, let me be very clear; I know there is no justification for what I have done, Yes, there is a bigger picture, but ultimately it doesn’t matter because I could have said ‘No,’ to cheating on the SAT scores. I unequivocally take responsibility for my actions and will respectfully accept whatever punishment the court deems appropriate,” the 56-year-old mother began her letter.

Huffman goes on to explain she initially sought out a college admissions counselor to help the family. Singer helped Sofia “legitimately” for over a year. He then informed Huffman that Sofia’s SAT Math score would not be good enough to get the young girl into any of her college choices.

“As warped as this sounds now, I honestly began to feel that maybe I would be a bad mother if I didn’t do what Mr. Singer was suggesting, In my desperation to be a good mother I talked myself into believing that all I was doing was giving my daughter a fair shot. I see the irony of that statement now because what I have done is the opposite of fair. I have broken the law, deceived the education community, betrayed my daughter and failed my family,” the actress continued in her letter.

The When They See Us finished her letter by expressing what it felt like to have her daughter Sofia ask Huffman why.

“When my daughter looked at me and asked with tears streaming down her face, ‘Why didn’t you believe in me? Why didn’t you think I could do it on my own?’ I had no adequate answer for her. I could only say, ‘I am sorry,” she said.

Felicity Huffman did her best to explain to a judge why she bought her daughter’s SAT scores. It is part of her plea to seek probation instead of jail time. Her sentencing hearing takes places next week on September 13th.
