Daria Kasatkina’s parents Sergey and Tatyana, are former athletes who raised two athletic kids in Russia. Kasatkina grew up playing tennis alongside her older brother, Alexander.
In the various stages of her life, Daria has always received the support of her family. Whether it was when she decided to play tennis or come out in 2022 and introduce her partner Natalia Zabiiako, her family never left her side.
Last year, during the same time, Daria, with other Russian and Belarusian players, was banned from competing in the prestigious tennis tournament Wimbledon.
A year later, since the ban, Daria looks more than ready to take the championship by storm. Though she lost in the fourth round of the French Open against Elina Svitolina, Daria has her eyes on the prize at Wimbledon.
Daria Kasatkina Parents, Sergey, And Tatyana
Daria Kasatkina’s parents, Sergey and Tatyana, raised two kids in Tolyatti, Russia. The two are former athletes but were never close to receiving as much success as their daughter.
Sergey Igorevich Kasatkin, born in 1962, is a former ice hockey player. He played two seasons with Tolyatti Torpedo in Russian League 1 and 2.
In his first season with Torpedo in 1982, Sergey played 46 games scoring 17 points, and in his second season, Sergey managed to play 22 games and earned five points.
After the 1982 season, no data is available on Sergey’s playing career, and he later turned towards becoming an engineer at Volga Automotive Plant. Her mother had a sporting career as an athletics player and was ranked nationally.
In a recent interview with The Times, Kastakina revealed she wasn’t born poor, but at the same time, her family didn’t come from luxury. They did struggle at times to further her tennis career.
In her interview, Daria recalled when her parents had to sell their home to fund her career. She was only 12, but they needed the fund as $6000 would alone be spent in applying for visas.
Kasatkina And Her Concerns For Her Parents
Earlier this year, Kasatkina talked to The Guardian about the ongoing situation in her country Russia and how it has affected her family.
The tennis player said she last saw her father two years ago and was able to meet her mother in December 2022 during pre-season training.
Kasatkina has openly criticized her country’s invasion of Ukraine, and after coming out last year, Daria has taken a big stance against her country.
The young tennis player has received the full support of her parents in her decision to talk about her sexuality and her relationship with Natalia Zabiiako.
Just before Wimbledon began, Daria once again expressed her frustration with the ongoing situation in her country. She feared for her friends and family trapped in the chaos.
Only last week, the lives of Russian civilians once again came under threat as the country’s private military company Wagner Group staged a coup against the government.
Daria Kasatkina Brother, Alexander Timokovskiy
Daria Kasatkina was raised alongside an older brother in Alexander Timokovskiy.
The brother-sister duo of Daria and Alexander share a strong bond. It was Alexander who worked on convincing their parents to let Daria play tennis. He had recognized his sister’s talent in the racquet sport at only six years old.
After becoming a professional tennis player, Daria didn’t let her brother out of her side. Currently, Alexander works as Daria’s fitness trainer and is with her on tour.
He is available on Instagram with the username @alextimkovskiy and has shared several photos with his sister. Alex also runs a Telegram channel where he gives tips on training in professional sports.
